Western Washington communities are impacted by several military sites— Fort Lewis Army Post, McChord Air Force Base, Navel Base Kitsap and Camp Murray. There are a significant number of local families with loved ones serving in the war. Our servicemen and women have to use calling cards to call home; this can be expensive when calling overseas. The Minutes for the Military program is designed to provide support to deployed military personnel by raising funds to purchase calling cards. This enables them to keep in touch with their families. We are also hoping to add a care package delivery program to further our support to members of the military serving over seas.
Along with providing calling cards, Minutes for the Military works with local schools to prepare and send thank you letters and care packages to deployed military personnel. Correspondence between students and deployed troops is an effective and fun way for the community to show its support and raise awareness.
